If you’ve applied for the recent 100K offer and got a denial or it went into review, this post is for YOU!
I’m back in NYC and catching up on everything. I can’t wait to share more about my incredible trip including how I booked the flights, the hotels and everything! More on that soon :)
Today’s post is a simple one so I am going to (hopefully) keep it short and sweet!
TLDR: A credit card application denial (or an app that goes into review) is not necessarily final.
Once you apply for a card, you have 30 days from the date you applied to have the bank reconsider your application. All it takes is a phone call to discuss what they may need for approval. The number to call on the 100K offer card I’ve been posting about is (888) 270-2127. Press zero and talk to a human!
CREDIT CARD DENIALS (or that dreaded “in review”)
The first thing to know? It is not necessarily final.
The second thing? It quite possibly has literally nothing to do with you.
It may feel final, it may feel like they are judging you - and bring out your deepest insecurities - but there are a few reasons this could have happened that have literally NOTHING to do with you. And they can often be overturned with a quick phone call.
Some of the potential reasons:
A fraud alert - they may believe someone else filled out your application even though it was actually you. They just need to verify your info!
They think you already have the card - if you are an authorized user on the card, it can happen that the bank thinks you have it already. You show them you don’t and then just like that, you’re approved!
There was an error on your application This happens all the time! You thought you entered your social right but one digit is off, or there’s a misspelling or a missing zero (or extra zero). It happens! They go over it with you and you’re good!
Other issues that are pretty straight forward and often salvageable:
Too much credit already extended to you - They don’t want to give you another card because you already have too much credit with them? Just ask to move some from another card to this one in order to approve it!
Concerns about your credit - you can point out that you pay your bills on time and your excellent credit history and have them reconsider!
Calling the bank is worth it and necessary if you don’t get an approval.
Here are the steps (if we’re talking about the 100K offer):
Call 888-270-2127 and make sure to talk to a person (press zero) and ask if there is any information they need to approve your card.
Hang up and call again if you don’t find someone particularly helpful - you'll pretty much always get someone new!
Feel free to call and have them reconsider as many times as you need in the 30 days after applying.
Don’t get discouraged!

The amount of people who tell me they are sure they didn’t get approved for xyz reasons…but then find out it was one of the reasons above. It’s like, every time.
Don’t assume! You don’t know the reasons until you chat with them (or get a notice in your account). It is most likely not personal. It’s so worth it to find out the reasons so you can discuss with them and hopefully (most likely!) get it overturned.
I just got over $4k in value from for two nights at a hotel in Paris that was 45K points/night but would have been $2000/night. I flew business class from Paris to NYC with 60K points. It would have been thousands of dollars.
It’s a quick phone call - and it’s worth the points!
