Happy early Father’s Day to all who celebrate!
For us, this was a weekend with a thousand little league games (7 to be exact) that turned into a rainy day at home so far.
A day at home was just what we needed though in the midst of this busy season. I have more to say about travel below (I promise!) but before that, I have to share this.
Finn 🖤
Our beloved dog, Finn, who I got when I was in my 20s and he was just a few months old, is at home with us suffering from kidney failure and is on his last couple of days.
My whole life I wanted a dog and between my parents not getting us one and then every apartment in NYC I’d lived in not allowing dogs, I was 29 before I signed a lease for a studio apartment that allowed them. Within weeks, I had my first dog — Cheerios! I got him off a rescue truck in front of a movie theater in Brooklyn Heights, changed his name to Finn, and the rest is history.
Kamali and I moved in together within a year of getting Finn and having a dog at home really made us feel like a family. Finn made every house feel like home, connected us to neighborhoods through long walks and visits to cafés and parks, friends who I am still close with and gave us routines and snuggles that have held us up through the many amazing highs and truly deep lows of the last 15 years.
Finn was always there.
He’s curled up now on his bed looking a little lost between the body and mind he once had and the transition to soon not being here any longer. I can hardly stand the thought of him not being here but the time is near and we all know it.
I have worried about this time for as long as I can remember and here we are. The bond and love animals give us is second to none - and it’s so heartbreaking that they have such short lives.
To the smartest, kindest, most gentle dog who knows ALL the coolest tricks, and has been the best friend to my boys I could have ever asked for, we will miss you immeasurably.
Thank you for being my friend 💔
Now a few more quick notes (not sad ones this time!) and then some really helpful (maybe the helpful??) points stuff below to help you travel better with your family.
The class on how to use the points from the #1 travel card is on TUESDAY 6/17! @1pm ET (with recording if you can’t make it live).
This class will show you all the best ways to use this card so you get the most out of it AND teach you all the basics of how to use points wisely regardless of which cards you have.
Please don’t miss this! The only thing that distracts me from all the stuff in the world right now is travel and points stuff — and there is a lot I need to be distracted by right now. I hope to see you there 🖤
A friend of mine sent this out yesterday re: my class in her newsletter and it made my day. Come learn my Jedi tricks!
How to use this Substack
I want to remind you all how best you can use this substack. At the top of the substack website (see above!), there are categories to click on.
If you are most interested in points & miles tips - click there for our extensive archive of posts. If you want to really get going with points and miles, this is where you want to start.
And the anchor article for many of these posts is HERE. Read these and you will know SO MUCH.
If city edits are your thing and you’re here for the recommendations (YAY!) then you can find those in the “City edits” section. I got this message today that made my day - and reminded me that recs are something that can be hard to find and it would be good to remind you all!
