Have you heard about the TikTok trend "Airport Theory"?
I talked to PureWow about it -- I had thoughts.
I had never heard of this trend “Airport Theory” before - partially because I have never really understood the appeal of TikTok (you know I AM OLD NOW since my birthday yesterday 👵🏻) and rarely use it!
Airport Theory is the idea (a movement?) of showing up at the airport 15 minutes before boarding for domestic AND international flights.
As someone who wasn't late for anything ever for most of my life, the thought of PLANNING to show up at the airport 15 minutes before boarding (including for international flights!) makes me heart race.
I think it might literally break me!
You know what they say though: There are two types of people: Those who are always ten minutes early and those who think it only takes ten minutes to get anywhere, and they marry each other. And indeed this is what I did!
Thankfully though, my other half (you can guess which one I am) also is not on TikTok and wouldn’t dream of trying to convince me this was a plausible way to travel.
As much as I love that thought of breezing into an airport and going right to the gate to board, my feeling in life is if you don't plan to be early, you'll likely be late. As a recovering punctuality addict, planning to be early was the secret sauce to how I was always on time.
So, when PureWow reached out to ask me about the idea of trying Airport Theory with kids, I looked into it — and I had thoughts!

I am so curious if you've tried this and how early you like to get to the airport! Please add a comment and share your experiences/take on this.
A few notes!

How to use this substack
I know this isn’t instagram and I am not supposed to be clogging your emails with yet another note but I’ve done it anyway ;) The most common reason I see for the small handful of people who have unsubscribed? Time. Not money, not content…time. So interesting (and yet another reason I should NOT be sending this!) but I am setting that aside!
I want to take a minute to share a few quick thoughts as to how you can best use this substack and not feel overwhelmed.
All articles are available in a blog format on the Brooklyn Family Travelers substack home page to access anytime. The paid posts will always have a paywall and the free posts will be free! So whichever subscriber you are, you can access the articles past and present at anytime.
There is a chat feature within substack if ever you have a question or want help booking, discussing a trip, etc. It’s a public chat and who knows? Maybe you’ll be helping someone else by asking a question that they didn’t think to ask.
The posts come to your email. Make sure you have that setting turned on (or off if it annoys you). Flag them and revisit them when you do have time. And remember that all info is going to be repeated over time, accessible to you and you’ll never be behind or unable to follow if you miss a post.
Keep an eye on the monthly rewinds! These are monthly recaps available on the top tab of the navigation bar on the main homepage. This is where you’ll be able to see each month’s posts at a glance for easy reference! I love writing these posts and sharing them and the monthly rewinds are to help you feel organized and not stressed about missing anything.
The monthly rewinds look a bit like this and are helpful!
IMPORTANT:
Don’t forget the $1,000 discount towards a full estate plan with Steward, ends on 5/31! Don’t miss this, it’s such a steal!
I’ve gotten a lot of messages from folks in the Brooklyn Family Travelers community letting me know they are LOVING Steward and it makes my day. Here is one I got yesterday:
If you haven’t yet taken advantage of this offer, you can do so HERE! They are a wonderful company and easy to talk to if you have questions, etc. Highly recommend — and like Diane said in this text, “it’s such an opportunity to PLAN”. What a gift.
